  Get Involved

  Chamber members, interested in making an impact on the local job market and economy, can do so by    
  serving on a Chamber workforce development focus group, task force or committee. 
Groups 
  currently meeting are described below.  For more information, click on the contact information at the

   Workforce Development Advisory Council.  The Council sets strategic goals and objectives 
   for Chamber's services to address the workforce quantity and quality needs of Salina's employers.  

   Council members include representatives from business, industry, military and education as well as the 
   Chamber’s Director of Workforce Program Development and its Workforce Outreach and Recruitment 
   Specialist.  The Council meets quarterly.

   Recruitment, Retention and Assessment Task Force.  This task force assists Chamber 
   staff in the nuts and bolts of providing workforce development services.  Members include employers, 
   human resource professionals, employment service providers, secondary and post-secondary 
   education representatives and Workforce Investment Act and Kansas Department of Commerce staff.  The 
   task force meets monthly.

   Education to Career Task Force.  This task force of community leaders will meet 2-3 times from 
   January through March, 2010.  It will develop a collaborative Salina Education to Career Plan between the 
   Chamber, the City of
Salina, Saline County, the Airport Authority, Salina USD #305, K-State Salina, Salina 
   Area Technical College, Kansas Wesleyan University, Brown Mackie College, business and industry 
   leaders and local, regional and state Department of Commerce and
Workforce Investment Act personnel.

   Education to Career Sub-committees.  Interested Chamber members are invited to participate
   on one of the Education to Career
S
ub-committees.  These sub-committees will provide background 
   information and recommend strategies to the Education to Career Task Force.  The task force will then 
   determine which strategies to include in its comprehensive Salina Education to Career Plan
Each 
   sub-committee will meet 4-5 times from January to March, 2010. 

 Needs Assessment Sub-committee. This committee is identifying strategies for collecting              
            
information on employment trends, workforce supply and demand trends, and human resource 
             issues.

Job Development Sub-committee.  This committee is identifying strategies to help citizens and 
            employers access the job skill training needed to be competitive.

Career Pathways Sub-committee.  This committee is working on strategies for developing 
            seamless Career
P
athways between secondary and postsecondary schools.  These pathways
            will map out how students, job seekers and workers can access
education and training 
            opportunities for career advancement throughout their lifetime. 

Talent Attraction Sub-committee. This committee is identifying strategies to attract and grow         
            the skilled workforce that existing and new Salina's businesses and industries need.
