Purpose:

Leadership Salina, sponsored by the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, is a program designed to develop competent community leaders.  The purpose of the program is not only to help make participants aware of the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing this area and inspire them to accept the responsibility of providing the leadership necessary for the continued progress and development of the community.

Program:

Leadership Salina seeks to develop potential and emerging leaders through specific needs and concerns of Salina.

The course consists of a series of eight day-long sessions, once a month, for eight months, beginning in September.  The program will combine informative presentations by a variety of area leaders, tours, panel discussions, and dialogue between participants and community leaders and decision makers.

Program sessions topics are:

  • Orientation to Leadership

  • Economic Development

  • Education

  • Business, Finance, and Industry

  • Local Government

  • Community Safety-Net/Public Information and Influence

  • Quality of Life

  • Salina Tomorrow

Participants:

A diversified group of 20 participants will be selected from various business, professional, governmental, educational, religious, civic and minority organizations.

Application requests can be made by businesses, organizations, individuals and civic clubs.  An anonymous selection committee will review the applicants and determine each year's class.

Candidates should be promising representatives of organizations of firms, preferably in responsible staff or management positions.

Leadership Salina does not discriminate in its enrollment policies on the basis of race, sex, or religion.

Nominees will be sent an application form.  It is recommended that the nominee discuss the program with his or her employee before sending in the completed form.

Participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Attend all sessions.  Participants absent from any session will be asked to withdraw from the program.

  • Accept responsibility for tuition fee being paid.

Tuition:

Tuition for the September-April course is $375 per person, which includes all program materials, meals, social functions, and transportation.  Business firms and organizations usually pay the tuition for their nominee, although an individual can pay his or her own tuition.

Applications:

Applications will be mailed out the first week in August.  The deadline for completed applications is 5pm, Thursday, August 15, 2008.
