Salina Military Affairs Council
Mission
Our mission is to plan, coordinate, and execute programs and activities that strengthen the relationship between Salina and the military members working, training, and living here. The goal is to bring a heightened awareness of one community's importance to the others. We commit to support service men and women and their families. In doing so, we demonstrate to active guard, reserve, retirees, and military families that Salina is not just a duty station, but a place to call home.
History
The Salina Military Affairs Council (MAC) was established in 2009 to provide a community-wide coordinating council between several military organizations and the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. Working together, the organizations focus on improving the quality of life for both the military and community.
Military Affairs Council Membership
The MAC is comprised of members from the business and military communities who meet the third Tuesday of each month from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Individuals who are interested in serving on the MAC should complete and return the MAC Member/Volunteer Expression-of-Interest Form, which can be found by selecting the button below.
Commanders Club Membership
The Commanders Club is a membership based group that brings together business, civic, retired and active military leaders in social settings. The main event, the Annual Commanders Club Dining Out, is a formal dinner that includes a keynote speaker. Additional activities approved by the Commanders Club Committee may occur throughout the year.
A Commanders Club Corporate Membership costs $250 and a Commanders Club Individual Membership costs $150. A corporate membership includes two tickets to the Annual Commanders Club Dining Out with $100 of the membership fee going towards the Salina Military Emergency Relief Fund. An individual membership includes one ticket to the Annual Commanders Club Dining Out with $50 of the membership fee going towards the Salina Military Emergency Relief Fund.
Salina Military Emergency Relief Fund
Spearheaded in 2012 by the late Salina business leader, philanthropist and Veteran Charlie Walker, the Salina Military Emergency Relief Fund provides assistance to local service members in need. The fund is sustained through donations and the Annual Armed Forces Day Charity Golf Tournament.
Here are just a few of the ways the MAC has provided support to those in need:
● Contributed money to a Military family as they dealt with their family member’s tragic accident
● Purchased a plane ticket so that a service member could visit his son in ICU
● Paid utility bills for a Military family facing financial difficulties after the spouse was laid off
● Donated funds to a Military family who lost everything in a house fire
